우습게도 결국은 단테의 신곡에서 온 거란 걸 나중에 알았다. <First Circle> 즉 <제1원>은 림보(Limbo)라고도 하는 지옥의 첫번째 고리였다. 문제는 대부분의 번역서가 영어 등에서 중역한 것으로 기본적으로 이탈이아어 원전 번역 자체가 드문탓에 그밖에 것은 말할 것도 없고 전체적으로 완성도가 낮아 보여 이 책 전에는 왠지 손이 나가지 않았었다. 이후로 여러 좋은 완역본이 나와 있다.
위키백과사전을 통해 공개 텍스트로 4가지 영어 번역을 찾아 인용 부분만 읽어 보았다. 프린스톤 대학교에서 제공하는 Hollander의 번역이 평이해 마음에 들었다. 이탈리아어로는 주석 달린 사이트를 골라보았다. 근데 이탈리아어를 알아야지.... ㅡㅡ;;
